A Brief Summary of the History of the Department of
Geology
Inception of the Department
Though the inception of a separate Department of Geology
is not traceable, it is clear that it was one of the departments under
Biology Division when Mr.P.F.Fyson was the Professor of Biology (1903 –
1910). This Biology Department was divided into three separate departments of
Botany, Zoolgy and Geology. In 1910, Dr. Murrey Stewart was appointed as
Professor of Geology. Since then the following men of letters served as
